Description

Ruthenium dioxide is a dark blue crystal, tetragonal crystal system. The relative density is 7.0, insoluble in water and acid, but soluble in molten lye. It does not decompose when heated to 1025°C, but decomposes at 1400°C, and a part of it is vaporized. When heated in a hydrogen atmosphere, it will be reduced to metallic ruthenium. Ruthenium dioxide is a chemical catalyst and an important raw material for making resistors and capacitors.
