(S)-Omeprazole is the (S)-enantiomer of Omeprazole a gastric proton-pump inhibitor. (S)-Omeprazole is more potent that its (R)-enantiomer and is used in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease as well as gastrointestinal ulcers associated with Crohn”s disease.

Omeprazole (trade name Losec) is a novel proton pump inhibitor (PPI) anti-ulcer drug marketed by Astra Pharmaceuticals, Inc. of Sweden in 1988. Omeprazole is a 1:1 mixture of R-type and S-type optical isomers, and its S-type optical isomer, esomeprazole. Nesomeprazole, chemically known as :(S) -5-methoxy-2 -{[(4-methoxy-3, 5-dimethyl-2-pyridyl) methyl] sulfonyl} -1H-benzimidazole. Nexium sodium is the sodium salt of Nexium.
