It is widely used in organic synthesis, medicine synthesis and peptide compound synthesis. Azidation reagent for the aziridination of alkenes catalyzed by tetraphenylporphyrin-cobalt. It is also used as an activator for the preparation of macrolides and aldose reductase inhibitors. It is also an important organophosphorus reagent.
